Due to candy sales by the members of the Hughes Band they were able to purchase fifty
uniforms. The first marching performance of the Hughes Band was on October 21, 1955 when
the newly uniformed band led the Homecoming parade through the streets of Hughes under
the direction of Drum Major Thomas Beene.  

The fall of 1955 also saw the Blue Devils named District 6-B football champions for the fourth
time in the school history.  Members of the 1955 District 6-B Championship team were: Bobby
Medlin, Fullback, Captain; Horace Drennan, Tackle, Captain; Hugh Dillahunty, Tackle; Steve
Bernard, End; Tommy Brist, Halfback; Teddy Harrison, Halfback; Johnny Collier, Quarterback;
Kuhron Meurrier, Guard; Cliff Wise, Center; Emmett Gadberry, Guard; Clary Lunsford,
Halfback; John R. Collier, Tackle; Larry Beene, Guard; Holman Kelly, Center; Gary Chittom,
Guard; Joe Don Halbrook, Halfback; Robert Little, Quarterback; Johnny Walton, End; Jerry
McMillion, Halfback.
